Description

After giving Pakistan a whack in the head up front and then going on to lose the match, Afghanistan are now ready to take on Bangladesh in the 2nd match for them in the tournament. This is the last match of the tournament to be played at Fatullah and will start at 14:00 local time and 8:00 GMT. It is a must-win situation for both the sides otherwise their chances will fade away in the tournament as both have lost their initial matches.

Afghanistan bowled splendidly against Pakistan while bowling first and grabbing 7 wickets at the total of 117. But since then, something went wrong and they couldn’t keep their hold of the situation as Umar Akmal went on to score a brilliant hundred saving Pakistan from an upset defeat. Dawlat Zadran, Samiullah Shenwari and Mirwais Ashraf were the key bowlers for Afghanistan in the last game and will be expected to impress once again. Mirwais might be left out of the playing XI today, however, giving chance to Hamid Hassan to play his first match in the tournament. Noor Ali Zadran was the most impressive batsmen for Afghans in the first match providing them with a reasonable innings up front scoring 44 with the help of 7 classic boundaries. Asghar Stanikzai and Nawroz Mangal also played handy innings of 40 and 35 respectively but they made the situation worst for the batsmen to come due to their slow scoring rate. If Afghanistan have to fancy their chances in today’s game, they will certainly have to lift their game with the bat.

Bangladesh were really impressive with the bat against India and exposed off the weak links in the Indian bowling attack. Anamul Haque and the captain Mushfiqur Rahim were in the spotlight as they built a brilliant 133 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket causing Bangladesh to reach a massive score of 279 runs. All was good for Bangladesh till then but as soon as they came out to bowl, their bowlers provided India a safe passage through. Though they picked up the Indian openers when the total was 54 but then the Virat Kohli show started who scored a fascinating 136 runs innings. Rahane was brilliant with him as well scoring 73 of 83 balls leading India to an easy win. Though, the target was massive but the Bengali bowlers couldn’t really seem to have grip on the match at any instance. This is where they need to improve as they go into the all-important match today against Afghanistan.
