Pakistan Team Squad & News

Misbah-ul-Haq*, Ahmed Shehzad, Abdur Rehman, Bilawal Bhatti, Anwar Ali, Fawad Alam, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Talha, Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi, Sharjeel Khan, Sohaib Maqsood, Umar Akmal†, Umar Gul

Mohammad Hafeez was the real star for Pakistan in UAE series and he will be expected to make solid impact on the game tomorrow. He has had bad times but now lately he looks to get his supreme form back, especially with the bat. Misbah says that his team has a good blend of experience and youngsters and the ploy seems to work for the team for last few months. The induction of Sharjeel Khan, Sohaib Maqsood and Mohammad Talha in the first match will be the key and the way these guys will play can allow Pakistan to fancy their chances in the tournament. Sohaib Maqsood has been amongst runs lately and scored 165 runs in 5 matches against Sri Lanka in UAE at an average of 41.25. Besides, Talha was splendid in the Test match he played against Sri Lanka and bowled superbly in Pakistan’s domestic T20 cup earning himself the green cap. He’ll most probably be making his ODI Debut against Sri Lanka tomorrow.

Sri Lanka Team Squad & News

AD Mathews*, PC de Silva, LD Chandimal, RAS Lakmal, DPMD Jayawardene, SL Malinga, MDKJ Perera†, BAW Mendis, NLTC Perera, KTGD Prasad, KC Sangakkara†, SMA Priyanjan, SMSM Senanayake, HDRL Thirimanne

As far as Sri Lanka is concerned, though they didn’t have a good out in UAE against Pakistan but now they are on the 3 match winning streak as they defeated Bangladesh in all the 3 ODIs and won T20s earlier as well. Mathews seems to have figured out the winning combination for the Lankans and will be looking to play his best 11 in the next match against Pakistan. Sri Lanka have had discovered a lot of young talent in their last couple of series and Kusal Perera is at the top of the list. He scored 142 runs in 5 matches in UAE and has been continuously providing the islanders with some superb starts up front. Ashan Priyanjan has been another talented find for Sri Lanka and the guy has proved himself in the international circuit in his short career so far. But the major stay for Sri Lanka in the batting department will be the trio of Dilshan, Sangakkara and Jayawardene. The way these three will play in tomorrow’s match will decide the fate of Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup opener. Besides, all-round performances from Seekugge Prasanna, Angelo Mathews and Sachitra Senanayake will come in handy as well.
